Alliance for Peace (AFP) Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental and independent organization working for peaceful and democratic Nepal. It is a pioneer organization working on political party reforms through democratization amongst the students and youth wings of the political parties in Nepal. Our thematic areas of work include human rights, peace building and conflict transformation with gender mainstreaming as a cross-cutting issue. In 2002, we were a group of like-minded students and youth meeting in a coffee shop talking about the spiraling violence in the country when the genesis of establishing an organization came into being. Today, AFP consists of dedicated professionals, student political leaders and concerned youth. Students and youth need to be taught and guided because they are the future of the society; they are tomorrow’s leaders and caretakers of the government. Alliance for Peace also works for the inclusion of vulnerable, the underprivileged and excluded groups, society and others backwards classes, believing that in a society where there is equality, there will be peace. To this end, AFP works to educate its constituency on the context of good governance, fulfillment of human rights, peace building and conflict transformation through advocacy, discussion forums, research, support and capacity building trainings. Since its inception, the Alliance has worked with the broad range of students and youths and it is currently initiating project with various partners, namely Danida HUGOU, the Embassy of Finland, the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights(OHCHR), the Asia Foundation, MS Nepal, and USAID. “A progressive, peaceful and democratic Nepal with full participation and leadership, at all levels, of empowered, creative, and active youths and students promoting non-violence and a culture of cohesion.” b)Mission “AfP Nepal strives to promote activism of diverse and dynamic youth of the country and facilitate youth participation at all levels of development initiatives, policy making processes and peace building initiatives” To achieve this mission, AfP Nepal implements programmes and projects aimed at youth empowerment, mobilisation, policy advocacy and networking. c) Goal “To promote active participation of youths and students in establishing peaceful and democratic society by ensuring involvement and leadership of youth in constitution making and peace building processes.” AFP gradually developing its expertise on working with students and youth, making a conscious effort to include youth within both political and non political spheres. This makes it a unique organization that has tremendous potential to contribute to a peaceful society free from violence, crime and conflict. It envisions youth who work to safeguard human rights, lobby for good governance and participate to bring about a truly democratic Nepal. |
