Youth in Transitional Nepal: Issues and Perceptions

Kathmandu, August 12.

Minister for Energy, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat launched a book entitled ‘Youth in Transitional Nepal: Issues and Perceptions” based on the findings of the National Youth Survey in Kathmandu today. In the ceremony organized by Alliance for Peace to mark International Youth Day, he stressed that youth of Nepal are aspiring for freedom and prosperity.

This survey-based book reveals a picture of Nepalese youths they face both challenges and opportunities and features their reflections on various concerns on democracy, social, political and economic life of the youth in Nepal.

The program was participated by the CA members and leaders of the political student and youth organizations.

Comparing the state of the British and Nepalese youth, Ms. Sophia Willits-King, Deputy Head of Mission, the British Embassy cited that Nepalese youth are capable of transforming the Nepalese society as agents of change.

On the occasion, Constituent Assembly members Rabindra Adhikari and Ram Krishna Tamrakar highlighted the challenges that the Nepalese youth are confronting today.

Alliance for Peace also submitted a paper of suggestions to the CA members on the youth issues to be addressed by the constitution on the same occasion. The suggestions are drawn from the survey and grassroots level interactions and dialogues amongst the youth.

The United Nations’ (UN) International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognize efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society.
