Guiding Principles
AfP Nepal advocates for effective participation of young women and men in the development process and for political and social transformation. We value the full engagement of young people at all levels of decision-making. Within this framework, our work is guided by the following principles:
- Respect for diversity and human dignity and opposition to all forms of discrimination based on age, political affiliation, social status, marital status, race, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender;
- Adherence to democracy, the rule of law, good governance, freedom of expression and the protection of human rights;
- Upholding international agreements of peace and security, the rule of international law and opposing violence and all forms of extremism;
- Strengthening, enhancing and supporting the role of young people in peace building, conflict management and the promotion of a culture of peace enshrined in mutual respect and understanding;
- Young people have a right to participate in the formulation of public policies, particularly where it directly affects their lives and their future.
- Youth service activities have a unique ability to create strong, diverse communities of inspired, intelligent, civically-engaged young people.
- Youth-led service programmes are most effective because decision-making gives young people ownership for the solutions. Nevertheless, adults can be important partners with youth to maximize the impact of their service by providing them with resources and technical assistance.
