We, Alliance for Peace (AfP) Nepal, welcome the recent democratic developments in Nepal. It is our firm belief that a democratic government based on rule of law and the principles of inclusion, equality, accountability, transparency, and justice is the prerequisite of a “New Nepal”.

Nepal’s Constituent Assembly (CA) elections marked a major step forward in the peace process, paving the way forward for the declaration of a federal democratic republic and the start of a constitution-making process. The pro-democracy movement of April 2006 transformed Nepal’s political setting, making it the start of a long and challenging path to peace; a peace process that may be long, difficult and challenging. However, we firmly believe that if managed with a clear vision and national interests in mind, this could help to build a prosperous Nepal where sustainable peace prevails. The responsibility lies mainly with the political leadership of the country.
